What to wear on Race Day

What to wear to Steeplechase
A woman and a man smiling and posing outdoors at an event, with tents and greenery in the background. The woman is wearing a blue and white striped dress and a decorative hat, and the man is wearing a blue suit, a light-colored tie, and a wide-brimmed hat.

From vibrant spring fashion to polished racewear, Steeplechase style is about personal style while still being comfortable outdoors.

Think smart Southern casual — sundresses, linen, sunhats, boots, sport coats or linen jackets. Bold hats, lightweight fabrics and shoes suitable for grass are all at home on Race Day.

While many guests enjoy dressing up for the occasion, there's no required look. Choose what lets you comfortably enjoy the day.

Because you'll spend Race Day outdoors, we recommend:

  • Comfortable shoes suitable for grass

  • Sunglasses

  • Sunscreen

  • A hat

  • Layers for changing temperatures

Guests attending premium hospitality areas often choose a more polished Race Day look, such as spring dresses, hats or fascinators, sport coats, linen jackets, dress shirts and lightweight seasonal fabrics.
