Leading owner Irv Naylor’s One Lucky Lady battled to a front-running victory in last year’s $50,000 Margaret Currey Henley, and she again will be the horse to catch in Saturday’s renewal of the Iroquois Steeplechase’s featured hurdle race for fillies and mares.
Trained by Cyril Murphy, One Lucky Lady will be making her 2017 debut and will be ridden by Sean McDermott.
The nine-year- old British-bred mare will be facing some stiff competition in a large field. Chief among her challengers is owner-trainer Hill Parker’s Get Ready Set Goes, the reigning female champion.
Get Ready Set Goes defeated One Lucky Lady by three-quarters of a length in the Peapack Stakes at Far Hills, N.J., last October to lock up the female title as well as the novice championship as the year’s top newcomer to jump racing.
The Ohio-bred five-year-old began her 2017 season with a fifth-place finish in the Carolina Cup for novices at Camden, S.C., on April 1. Richard Boucher again will be in the saddle.
Here is the field for the $50,000 Margaret Currey Henley in post-position order. The horses’ National Steeplechase Association ratings are in parentheses at the end of their profiles.
